How is CookSnap different from SuperCook?

SuperCook scrapes recipes from across the open web; CookSnap curates a smaller library (9,000+ recipes) that has been hand-verified. SuperCook clicks out to third-party food blogs; CookSnap serves the recipe on its own page with no ads or popups. How is CookSnap different from DishGen, FoodsGPT, or ChefGPT?

Those apps generate recipes from a language model on demand and tend to hallucinate ingredients — in a 50-prompt test, generative apps added unrequested ingredients in 22 to 38 percent of results. CookSnap matches against a curated library of real recipes that have actually been cooked. Retrieval is also faster: CookSnap matches in under 200ms; generative apps take 8 to 20 seconds.

Can I use CookSnap without an app download?

Yes. cooksnapapp.com/recipe-finder is a fully functional free recipe finder that works in any browser. Type your ingredients, get matched recipes. No signup, no email, no app required. The iOS app adds camera-based ingredient detection and macro tracking on top.

Alex Vakser, a solo founder, started building CookSnap at age 14. It remains an independent product with no outside investors. The team is one developer plus a roster of recipe editors and beta testers.

How does the ingredient scanning work?

Open CookSnap and point your camera at any ingredient or group of ingredients. The app detects them in under 15 seconds using AI-powered computer vision, then matches your exact ingredients against a curated recipe database and shows every meal you can realistically make right now — no substitutions, no guessing.

Are the recipes real or AI-generated?

CookSnap uses a curated database of real recipes submitted by home cooks and verified chefs. Recipes are not AI-generated. Every result is a real dish with real steps, real photos, and real macro data.

What diets and filters does CookSnap support?

CookSnap supports 15+ dietary filters including vegan, vegetarian, keto, gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, high-protein, and low-carb. Set your filters once in your profile and you'll never see a recipe that doesn't fit your diet.

What's the difference between Scan, Multi, and Scan Pro?

Scan mode takes a single photo. Multi mode lets you take up to 3 photos to capture more ingredients at once. Scan Pro (available on the Pro plan) lets you take up to 5 photos and scans packaged foods via barcode as well.

Does it work if I only have a few ingredients?

Yes — CookSnap is specifically built for this. Even with 2 or 3 ingredients, CookSnap will find real recipes that match, and optionally suggest up to 3 common pantry additions (free plan) or 6 additions (Pro) that would expand your options further.

Can I save recipes I like?

Yes. Save any meal to your library, organize them into custom folders, and access them anytime — even offline. Free users get 25 saves. Pro users get unlimited.

What is the Creator Program?

The CookSnap Creator Program lets home cooks and chefs submit original recipes to the app, earn rewards every time another user cooks their dish, and build a following of real fans inside CookSnap. Apply at cooksnapapp.com/creators.

Will there be an Android version?
