Ingredients

  • 8 oz dark or milk chocolate, chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 lb strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 8 oz pound cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups large marshmallows

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the chopped chocolate, heavy cream, and butter into a small heatproof bowl.

  2. 2

Fill a small pot with about 2 inches of water and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat — you should see small bubbles breaking the surface steadily.

  3. 3

Place the bowl of chocolate on top of the pot, making sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water, and let the chocolate sit undisturbed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

Stir the chocolate gently with a rubber spatula until completely smooth and glossy, about 1 minute — no lumps should remain.

  5. 5

Carefully lift the bowl away from the pot and place it on a folded kitchen towel or heat-safe trivet to protect the table.

  6. 6

Arrange the strawberry halves, pound cake cubes, and marshmallows on a serving platter around the chocolate bowl.

  7. 7

Provide each person with a long fondue fork or regular fork and show them how to spear a piece of fruit or cake, dip it into the warm chocolate, and eat it.

Tools you’ll need
