Ingredients

  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup red bean paste
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup water (for syrup)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a bowl, mix 1 cup glutinous rice flour with 0.5 cup water until a soft dough forms. If too sticky, add a little more flour; if too dry, add water a teaspoon at a time.

  2. 2

Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each piece, place 1 teaspoon of red bean paste in the center, then pinch the dough around it and roll into a smooth ball.

  3. 3

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Drop in the rice balls and cook until they float to the surface, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.

  4. 4

In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 2 tbsp sugar. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.

  5. 5

Place the cooked rice balls in a bowl and pour the warm syrup over them. Serve immediately.
