Ingredients

  • 12 leaves bamboo leaves, dried
  • 2 cups glutinous rice (sticky rice)
  • ½ lb ground pork
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 stalks scallions, chopped
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. 1

Soak bamboo leaves in hot water for 5 minutes until soft and pliable.

  2. 2

Rinse glutinous rice in a sieve under cold water until water runs clear, then drain well.

  3. 3

Brown ground pork in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon, 4-5 minutes.

  4. 4

Add minced garlic, stir until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

  5. 5

Stir in 2 tbsp soy sauce and sesame oil, then fold in drained rice and scallions off heat.

  6. 6

Lay one bamboo leaf shiny-side down, place 2 tbsp filling near the center, fold into a triangle.

  7. 7

Bring 4 cups water to a boil in a pot, drop in zongzi, and simmer 12-15 minutes until they float.

  8. 8

Drain zongzi and serve hot. Mix remaining 2 tbsp soy sauce with a splash of water as dipping sauce.
