Ingredients

  • 8 slices dark rye bread, sliced
  • 4 oz smoked salmon
  • 3 oz gravlax or cured salmon
  • 3 oz sliced cured ham or prosciutto
  • 3 oz Swedish hard cheese (västerbotten or emmental)
  • 2 tbsp whole-grain mustard
  • ½ cup pickled cucumber (agurk) or cornichons
  • ¼ cup fresh dill

Instructions

  1. 1

Lay rye bread slices on a board or platter. Spread each with a thin coat of whole-grain mustard.

  2. 2

Layer smoked salmon and gravlax on half the bread slices, folding slightly to show the color.

  3. 3

Drape cured ham on the remaining bread slices, gathering folds for height and texture.

  4. 4

Shave or slice cheese thin and lay across both ham and salmon pieces, overlapping.

  5. 5

Scatter pickled cucumber and fresh dill across the platter. Serve immediately.
