Ingredients

  • 6 oz sliced cured ham or salami
  • 4 oz smoked salmon or gravlax
  • 6 oz hard cheese (aged gouda or havarti), cubed or sliced
  • 4 oz pickled herring or smoked mackerel
  • 1.5 cups mixed pickled vegetables (cucumber, beets, red onion)
  • 8 slices dark rye bread or crisp bread, sliced

Instructions

    Arrange cured meats, smoked fish, and cheese on a large board or platter in casual clusters.

    Fill gaps with pickled vegetables, spooning some of the brine around them for flavor.

    Stand bread slices upright at the edge of the board or place alongside.

    Serve cold with small forks, spreads, and napkins. Guests assemble their own bites.
