Ingredients

  • 6 oz smoked salmon or gravlax
  • 1 loaf, sliced rye or pumpernickel bread
  • 4 whole, halved hard-boiled eggs
  • 8 oz creamy cheese (brie, camembert, or Danish cheese)
  • 1 jar (8 oz) pickled herring or cucumber
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill and chives (or both), chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

    Arrange bread slices on a board or platter. Spread lightly with butter and a thin layer of Dijon mustard.

    Lay smoked salmon on half the bread. Top the other half with soft cheese.

    Scatter hard-boiled egg halves and pickled herring or cucumber between the bread and proteins.
