Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic
- 24 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- ¼ cup fresh basil
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, combine 1 lb ground beef, 0.5 cup breadcrumbs, 1 beaten egg, 1 minced garlic clove, and 0.5 tsp salt. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork.
- 2
Roll the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs (about 12 total). Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- 3
Add the meatballs in a single layer, working in batches if needed. Cook until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes total. Transfer to a plate.
- 4
Reduce heat to medium. Add 1 minced garlic clove and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Pour in 24 oz crushed tomatoes and 0.5 tsp salt.
- 5
Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning sauce over them. Simmer uncovered until meatballs are cooked through and sauce thickens slightly, about 15-20 minutes.
- 6
Stir in 0.25 cup chopped fresh basil. Taste and adjust salt if needed. Serve hot, garnished with extra basil if desired.
