Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion
- 1 lb ground beef
- 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 12 oz pasta
Instructions
- 1
Heat the 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add the 1 diced onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 2
Add the 1 lb ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Season with the 1 tsp salt and 0.5 tsp black pepper.
- 3
Stir in the 28 oz crushed tomatoes and 1 tsp dried oregano. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Let it bubble gently, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 15 minutes.
- 4
Meanwhile, cook the 12 oz pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- 5
Drain the pasta and add it to the sauce. Toss to coat, adding a splash of reserved pasta water if the sauce seems thick. Serve hot, topped with chopped parsley if you like.
- 6
Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if needed. Enjoy your hearty meat sauce over pasta.
