Ingredients

  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2 tsp matcha powder
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 4 whole bamboo skewers

Instructions

  1. 1

In a microwave-safe bowl, whisk together 1 cup glutinous rice flour, 2 tbsp sugar, and 1 tsp matcha powder. Gradually stir in 3/4 cup water until smooth.

  2. 2

Cover bowl with plastic wrap and microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir, then microwave for another 1-2 minutes until the mixture is thick and translucent.

  3. 3

Dust a clean surface with 2 tbsp cornstarch. Turn out the mochi and let cool slightly until handleable, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Knead the mochi gently with cornstarch-dusted hands until smooth, then shape into a log and cut into 12 equal cubes.

  5. 5

Thread 3 cubes onto each of 4 bamboo skewers. In a small bowl, mix remaining 2 tbsp sugar with 1 tsp matcha powder and 2 tbsp hot water to make a syrup.

  6. 6

Drizzle the matcha syrup over the skewers and serve immediately. Enjoy the chewy texture!
