Ingredients

  • 10 oz mozzarella cheese (fresh, low-moisture)
  • 6 sheets phyllo dough sheets
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup pistachios or walnuts (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp rose water or lemon juice

Instructions

    Stir sugar, water, and rose water in a small saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves, ~3 minutes. Pour into a bowl to cool.

    Cut mozzarella into thin sticks about 3 inches long. Pat dry with paper towels.

    Lay one phyllo sheet flat. Brush lightly with melted butter. Place a cheese stick at one edge, roll tightly, then fold in the sides like a burrito.

    Heat 2 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry rolls 1-2 minutes per side until golden and crispy.

    Immediately transfer to a plate and drizzle generously with cooled syrup. Scatter chopped nuts on top and serve warm.
