Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 whole egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix flour, melted butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla in a bowl until a thick dough forms.

  2. 2

Heat a waffle iron on medium-high. Lightly butter both sides of the plates.

  3. 3

Place 2 tbsp dough on the center of the bottom plate. Close and cook until golden brown, ~3 minutes.

  4. 4

Remove waffle onto a cutting board. Repeat with remaining dough until you have 8 waffles.

  5. 5

While waffles cool slightly, melt 4 tbsp butter with 0.5 cup brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until glossy, ~2 minutes.

  6. 6

Cut each waffle in half horizontally with a serrated knife. Spread caramel on the bottom half.

  7. 7

Place the top half over the caramel. The heat will soften the waffle and let the caramel ooze out. Serve warm.
