Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 8 tbsp butter, cold and cubed, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp baking powder

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 425°F. Mix flour, cheddar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.

    Cut 6 tbsp cold butter into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it looks like coarse breadcrumbs.

    Stir in buttermilk until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.

    Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a sheet pan, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake until golden brown, 12-14 minutes.

    Melt remaining 2 tbsp butter with minced garlic in a small pan over low heat, 90 seconds—don't brown it.

    Brush hot biscuits with garlic butter immediately after they come out of the oven. Serve right away.
