Ingredients

  • 1 pound rice cakes
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 stalks green onions
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. 1

If using firm rice cakes, soak in warm water for 10 minutes to soften; if using fresh, skip this step. Pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the rice cakes in a single layer and cook until golden brown and crispy on the bottom, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

Flip the rice cakes and cook the other side until golden and slightly puffed, another 3-4 minutes. They should be crispy outside but still chewy inside.

  4. 4

Reduce heat to low. Add 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tsp sesame oil, tossing to coat the rice cakes evenly. Cook for 1 minute until the sauce is absorbed and glossy.

  5. 5

Remove from heat and sprinkle with sliced green onions. Serve hot as a snack or side dish.
