Ingredients
- 1.5 lb white fish fillets
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 cup fresh cilantro
- 2 tbsp tamarind paste
Instructions
- 1
In a bowl, mix 1/2 cup yogurt, 1 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp chili powder, and 1 tsp salt. Add 1.5 lb fish fillets, coat well, and let marinate for 10 minutes.
- 2
While fish marinates, blend 1 cup cilantro with 2 tbsp water and a pinch of salt until smooth to make the green chutney. Set aside.
- 3
In a small bowl, stir 2 tbsp tamarind paste with 2 tbsp water to make the red chutney. Set aside.
- 4
Heat 3 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place the marinated fish in a single layer, not crowding the pan.
- 5
Fry the fish until golden and crisp on the bottom, about 4 minutes. Flip and cook until opaque and flaky, about 3 more minutes.
- 6
Serve the fried fish hot with the green and red chutneys on the side.
