Ingredients

  • 4 slices thick-cut bread (brioche or day-old), sliced 0.75-inch thick
  • ½ cup dry white wine or sherry
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 piece cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole large eggs
  • 3 tbsp honey

    Heat wine, sugar, cinnamon, and 0.5 cup water in a shallow bowl over medium until steam rises, about 2 minutes.

    Soak each bread slice in the warm wine syrup for 5 seconds per side, then lay on a plate.

    Crack eggs into another bowl and whisk until no whites remain, about 30 seconds.

    Heat 2 tbsp oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high until shimmer appears, 60 seconds.

    Coat soaked bread in beaten egg, place in skillet, and pan-fry 2 minutes per side until golden brown.
