Ingredients
- ½ lb ground beef
- ½ medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1.5 tsp berbere spice blend (or chili powder + cumin)
- 16 count wonton wrappers
- 2 cups neutral oil for frying
Instructions
- 1
Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a spoon until no pink remains, about 4 minutes.
- 2
Add diced onion, ginger-garlic paste, and berbere spice. Stir and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- 3
Remove filling from heat and let cool slightly, about 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 4
Heat oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (use a thermometer). While oil heats, spoon 1 tbsp filling into the center of each wonton wrapper.
- 5
Fold each wrapper into a triangle, pressing edges firmly to seal. Work in batches of 4–5 sambusa, frying until deep golden, about 2 minutes.
- 6
Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate. Serve hot with lime wedges or hot sauce if desired.
