  • 4 slices bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 4 oz cheese (cheddar, American, or gruyère), sliced or shredded
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

    Butter one side of each bread slice generously, all the way to the edges.

    Heat a skillet over medium-low. Place two slices butter-side down in the pan.

    Top each slice with half the cheese, then cover with remaining bread butter-side up.
