Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry sheet (thawed)
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups neutral cooking oil (for frying)
  • 4 oz dark chocolate (chopped)
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl.

  2. 2

Cut puff pastry into 4-inch strips about 0.5-inch wide.

  3. 3

Heat oil in a heavy skillet to 375°F. Test with a wooden spoon handle—bubbles should form around it immediately.

  4. 4

Fry pastry strips 60–90 seconds per side until deep golden, turning once. Work in batches to avoid crowding.

  5. 5

Transfer churros to paper towels, then roll in cinnamon sugar while still hot.

  6. 6

Heat cream until steaming. Pour over chocolate, wait 30 seconds, then stir until silky. Serve as a warm dip.

Tools you’ll need

  • heavy-bottomed skillet or deep saucepan
  • candy/deep-fry thermometer
  • wooden spoon
  • shallow bowl (for cinnamon sugar)
  • paper towels
  • small saucepan (for chocolate)
