Ingredients
- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- ¾ cup milk
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
Instructions
- 1
In a small bowl, dissolve the 1 tbsp yeast and 1 tbsp of the sugar in 0.25 cup warm milk (about 110°F). Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- 2
In a large bowl, mix the 2.5 cups flour, remaining 3 tbsp sugar, and 0.5 tsp salt. Add the yeast mixture, remaining 0.5 cup milk, 2 tbsp melted butter, and 1 egg. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 1 hour.
- 4
Roll the dough to 0.5 inch thickness. Cut into donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters. Place on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes until puffy.
- 5
Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep pot to 350°F. Fry the donuts in batches, 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and let cool slightly.
- 6
Whisk the 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, and 2 tbsp warm water until smooth. Dip each donut top into the glaze, then immediately sprinkle with colorful sprinkles. Let set for 5 minutes before serving.
