Ingredients
- 1 lb store-bought pizza dough (room temperature)
- 1 large yellow onion
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1.5 cups gruyère or cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
- ¼ tsp fleur de sel or finishing salt
- ½ tsp caraway seeds (optional)

Slice onion thin. Heat 2 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium. Add onion and cook, stirring often, until deep golden and sweet, 8–10 minutes.

Preheat oven to 425°F. Stretch dough into a rough rectangle on a sheet pan lined with parchment.

Spread caramelized onions evenly over dough. Top with shredded cheese and thyme.

Dot with remaining 1 tbsp butter. Bake until golden and cheese melts, 8–10 minutes.

Remove from oven. Sprinkle fleur de sel and caraway seeds if using. Slice and serve hot.
