Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 4 burger buns
- 1 large yellow onion
- 4 tbsp mayonnaise
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- 1
Slice the 1 large onion thinly. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat, add the onion, and cook until soft and golden brown, about 10 minutes. Set aside.
- 2
In a bowl, gently mix the 1 lb ground beef with 1 tsp salt and 0.5 tsp black pepper. Form into 4 patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Do not overwork the meat.
- 3
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium, until browned and firm to the touch. Let rest for 2 minutes.
- 4
Toast the 4 burger buns cut-side down on the grill or in a dry skillet until golden, about 1 minute.
- 5
Spread 1 tbsp mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a lettuce leaf, a patty, and a quarter of the caramelized onions.
- 6
Place the top bun on each burger and serve immediately.
