Ingredients

  • 2 pounds spare ribs
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 stalks green onions

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. Pat the 2 pounds spare ribs dry with paper towels, then rub all over with 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon smoked paprika.

  2. 2

Place ribs on a foil-lined baking sheet, meaty side up. Cover tightly with another sheet of foil and bake until tender, about 1 hour 15 minutes, or until a knife slides in with little resistance.

  3. 3

In a small bowl, mix 1 cup barbecue sauce with 2 tablespoons brown sugar. Remove ribs from oven and discard foil; brush the sauce generously over the top of the ribs.

  4. 4

Turn oven to broil and place ribs 6 inches from the heat. Broil for 3-5 minutes, until the sauce is bubbling and charred in spots, watching closely to avoid burning.

  5. 5

Let ribs rest for 5 minutes, then slice between the bones. Sprinkle with 2 chopped green onions and serve with extra sauce on the side.

  6. 6

For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne or chili flakes to the sauce before brushing.
