Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 2 medium apples
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 whole star anise
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll out the 1 sheet puff pastry on a floured surface to a 12x10 inch rectangle.

  2. 2

Peel and core the 2 apples, then slice thinly. In a bowl, mix apples with 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon.

  3. 3

In another bowl, soften the 4 oz cream cheese with 1 tbsp sugar. Spread the cheese mixture over the pastry, leaving a 1 inch border.

  4. 4

Arrange the apple slices over the cheese. Fold the pastry edges over the filling and roll up tightly, sealing the seam.

  5. 5

Beat the 1 egg and brush over the strudel. Place the 1 star anise on top for flavor. Bake until golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.

  6. 6

Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
