Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 2 tbsp chili oil or soy sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix flour, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Add warm water and oil, stir until a shaggy dough forms.

  2. 2

Knead the dough on a counter for 3 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky. Divide into 8 equal pieces.

  3. 3

Roll each piece into a ball, flatten slightly with your palm, then fold in half and seal the edges by pinching gently.

  4. 4

Arrange buns seam-side down on a steamer basket lined with parchment. Leave 1 inch between each bun.

  5. 5

Bring water to a boil in a pot. Steam buns, covered, for 10 minutes until puffed and cooked through.

  6. 6

Serve warm with chili oil, soy sauce, or as edible bowls for stir-fried vegetables.
