Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups sticky rice (glutinous rice)
  • ¾ cup coconut milk
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large sheets banana leaves (or parchment paper)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Rinse sticky rice under cold water until water runs clear, about 1 minute.

  2. 2

Combine rice, coconut milk, water, and salt in a pot. Stir, bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

  3. 3

Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender.

  4. 4

If using banana leaves, quickly soften over a gas flame or in hot water, then divide rice between the leaves and fold into parcels.

  5. 5

If using parchment, divide warm rice between two sheets, fold loosely, and let cool 1 minute.

  6. 6

Unwrap, top with sesame seeds if desired, and serve warm.
