Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 1.5 cups feta cheese, crumbled
- 12 sheets phyllo pastry sheets
- 6 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp each salt, pepper, and dried oregano
- ½ cup plain yogurt, for serving
Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a 9x13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add diced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until deep golden, ~8 minutes.
- 3
Add ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until no pink remains, ~6 minutes.
- 4
Stir in salt, pepper, and oregano. Remove from heat and fold in crumbled feta.
- 5
Brush the baking sheet with 1 tbsp olive oil. Layer 6 phyllo sheets on top, brushing each with oil.
- 6
Spread the beef-feta mixture evenly over the phyllo. Layer remaining 6 sheets on top, brushing each with oil.
- 7
Brush the top sheet with remaining 1 tbsp oil. Score into 8 rectangles with a sharp knife (do not cut all the way through).
- 8
Bake until the top is deep golden brown and crispy, 20–25 minutes.
- 9
Cool for 5 minutes. Serve with a dollop of yogurt on the side.
