Ingredients
- ½ lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- ½ lb mussels, cleaned and debearded
- 1 can (14 oz) canned crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups fish or chicken stock
- ¼ tsp saffron threads
- ½ bulb fennel bulb, thinly sliced
- 2 slices crusty bread, for serving

Heat olive oil in a heavy pot over medium. Add fennel and garlic; cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.

Pour in stock and crushed tomatoes. Stir in saffron, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.

Add shrimp and mussels. Cover and simmer until mussels open and shrimp turns pink, 5–7 minutes.

Discard any unopened mussels. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.

Ladle broth and seafood into shallow bowls. Top with crusty bread for dunking.
