Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- ¾ cup milk
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup raisins
- ½ cup candied fruit
Instructions
- 1
Warm 3/4 cup milk and 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan over low until butter melts, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool to lukewarm.
- 2
In a large bowl, mix 3 cups flour, 1 packet yeast, and 1/4 cup sugar. Add the milk mixture and 2 eggs; stir until a soft dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour until doubled.
- 4
Punch down the dough and knead in 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 cup candied fruit. Shape into a ring on a baking sheet, pinching ends together.
- 5
Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes until puffy. Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- 6
Mix 1/4 cup sugar with 2 tbsp water to make a glaze. Brush over the warm cake and let set before serving.
