Ingredients
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups vanilla frosting
- ½ cup rainbow icing
- 1 piece red ribbon
Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two 9-inch round cake pans. Prepare the 1 box chocolate cake mix with 3 eggs, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, and 1 cup water as directed on the box.
- 2
Divide batter evenly between the two pans. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 25-30 minutes. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- 3
Once cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread 1 cup of the 2 cups vanilla frosting evenly over the top. Place the second layer on top.
- 4
Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining 1 cup vanilla frosting, smoothing with a spatula. Aim for an even, clean coat.
- 5
Drizzle the 1/2 cup rainbow icing over the top of the cake in a decorative pattern, letting it drip slightly down the sides. Tie the 1 red ribbon around the cake for a festive finish.
- 6
Slice and serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
