Ingredients

  • 1 lb fleischkäse (pork meatloaf)
  • 4 whole semmel rolls or crusty rolls
  • 3 tbsp yellow mustard
  • ½ whole white or yellow onion
  • ½ cup cornichons or small pickles
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 0 to taste salt and pepper

    Slice fleischkäse into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Slice onion into thin half-moons.

    Halve the rolls horizontally. Spread mustard on both cut sides of each roll.

    Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers, ~90 seconds.

    Add fleischkäse slices in a single layer. Pan-fry 2 minutes per side until golden brown.

    Layer warm fleischkäse on bottom halves of rolls. Top with onion and cornichons.
