Ingredients
- 2 large pita bread
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion
- 2 cups plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp tahini
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cumin
Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut the 2 large pita breads into bite-size pieces, spread on a baking sheet, and drizzle with 1 tbsp olive oil. Bake until golden and crisp, about 10 minutes.
- 2
While pita crisps, heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-high. Add 1 chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- 3
Add 1 lb ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Season with 1 tsp ground cumin, salt, and pepper.
- 4
In a bowl, whisk together 2 cups plain yogurt, 2 tbsp tahini, and 2 tbsp lemon juice until smooth. Season with salt to taste.
- 5
Spread the crispy pita in a serving dish. Top with the hot meat mixture, then pour the yogurt sauce over everything.
- 6
Serve immediately, garnished with extra cumin or fresh herbs if you like.
- 7
Enjoy warm, scooping up all the layers with extra pita if desired.
