Classic Onigiri Rice Balls

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked white rice, cooled to warm
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoon umeboshi (pickled plum) or salted salmon, chopped
  • ½ sheet nori (seaweed sheet), cut into strips

Instructions

    Wet your hands with water and sprinkle salt into your palms.

    Scoop roughly 0.5 cup warm rice into one hand.

    Make a small well in the rice with your thumb. Place 1 teaspoon filling in the center.

    Gently cup both hands and squeeze the rice into a compact ball or triangle, 15 seconds.

    Wrap a nori strip around the bottom. Repeat with remaining rice and filling.
