Ingredients

  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 0 to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice onions into thin half-moons, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat until foaming, ~1 minute.

  3. 3

Add onions and stir to coat. Cook without stirring for 5 minutes until edges soften.

  4. 4

Stir, then cook 8-10 more minutes, stirring every 2 minutes, until onions are deep golden and tender.

  5. 5

Remove from heat. Let cool for 2 minutes to prevent cream cheese from breaking.

  6. 6

Fold sour cream and cream cheese into onions until no streaks remain.

  7. 7

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Transfer to a serving bowl.

  8. 8

Serve warm or at room temperature with crackers, chips, or bread.
