Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice, cooked
  • ½ lb ground lamb (or diced lamb)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste (or 1 tbsp minced garlic + 1 tsp grated ginger)
  • 2 tsp biryani spice mix (cumin, coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves) or garam masala
  • ¾ cup yogurt, plus extra for raita
  • 2 piece roti or naan (2 pieces)

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add sliced onion and cook, stirring, until soft and edges turn golden, about 4 minutes.

  2. 2

Add ginger-garlic paste and biryani spice. Stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. 3

Add lamb, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook, stirring occasionally, until no pink remains, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Stir in yogurt and cooked rice. Toss gently to combine, then cover and warm through for 2 minutes.

  5. 5

Warm roti in a dry skillet 30 seconds per side. Serve biryani alongside roti with a dollop of yogurt raita.
