Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp butter, cold and cubed
  • ½ cup dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, or diced apricots)
  • ⅓ cup sliced almonds or chopped hazelnuts
  • 4 whole cardamom pods, crushed, or 0.5 tsp ground cardamom
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

Instructions

    Line a sheet pan with parchment. Combine flour, sugar, cardamom, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.

    Cut cold butter into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, ~2 minutes.

    Fold in dried fruit and nuts. Stir in 3 tbsp water until the dough just comes together; don't overmix.

    Drop walnut-sized clumps onto the sheet pan, spacing them 2 inches apart. Flatten each slightly with your palm.

    Bake at 375°F until golden brown around the edges, 12–14 minutes. Cool 2 minutes on the pan, then transfer to a rack.

    Dust warm bites with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
