Ingredients

  • 1 box or 1 9-inch round store-bought chocolate cake (unfrosted)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 3 oz chocolate bar (dark or milk, for shards)
  • ½ cup chocolate shavings or curls (store-bought)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1

Whip heavy cream, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla for 2–3 min until stiff peaks form.

  2. 2

Level the chocolate cake with a serrated knife, then split into 2–3 thin layers.

  3. 3

Spread 1/3 of frosting on the first cake layer, stack the next layer, repeat until all layers are stacked and frosted.

  4. 4

Use an offset spatula to swirl remaining frosting over the top and sides for a rustic, TikTok-ready finish.

  5. 5

Scatter chocolate shavings and shards (broken from the chocolate bar) across the top while frosting is still soft.

  6. 6

Chill for 5 min, slice, and serve with the chocolate pieces pressed gently onto each slice's side.
