Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread slices
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut a 2-inch round hole in the center of each bread slice using a cookie cutter or a small glass. Reserve the cut-out circles for dipping.

  2. 2

Melt 1 tbsp butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place both bread slices in the skillet, letting them toast for about 1 minute until lightly golden on the bottom.

  3. 3

Flip the bread slices. Crack one egg into each hole, being careful not to break the yolk. Season with half the salt and pepper.

  4. 4

Cook for 2-3 minutes until the egg whites are set and the bread is golden brown. For a runny yolk, remove immediately; for a firmer yolk, cook 1-2 minutes more.

  5. 5

Flip the toad-in-the-hole if you prefer your egg cooked on both sides, cooking for an additional 1 minute. Serve hot with the reserved bread circles for dipping.
