Ingredients

  • 4 buns store-bought steamed gua bao buns (or steam fresh)
  • 200 g braised or canned pork belly (or roasted pork shoulder)
  • ½ cup pickled mustard greens (zha cai), chopped
  • ¼ cup roasted peanuts, crushed
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro or scallion, chopped

Instructions

    Warm the pork belly gently in a skillet over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Warm the buns. If using fresh, steam for 4 minutes covered. If store-bought, microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel for 20 seconds.

    Open each bun and brush the inside lightly with hoisin sauce.

    Layer pork belly, pickled mustard greens, and crushed peanuts into each bun.

    Top with fresh cilantro or scallion. Serve immediately.
