Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups vegetable oil
Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, whisk together the 2 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- 2
In a small bowl, beat the 1 egg, then stir in the 3/4 cup milk and 2 tablespoons melted butter.
- 3
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms, about 1 minute. Do not overmix.
- 4
On a floured surface, pat the dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small).
- 5
Heat the 2 cups oil in a deep skillet over medium-high until a cube of bread browns in 30 seconds, about 350°F.
- 6
Fry the donuts in batches, 2 at a time, for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- 7
While still warm, toss each donut in a bowl with the remaining 1/4 cup sugar to coat evenly.
