Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb white fish fillets
  • 3 medium tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 6 cloves garlic cloves
  • 3 whole red chili peppers
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the 3 tomatoes into wedges, slice the 1 onion, mince the 6 garlic cloves, and slice the 3 red chili peppers (remove seeds for less heat).

  2. 2

Heat the 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until soft and fragrant, about 3 minutes.

  3. 3

Add the tomatoes and chili peppers, then pour in the 4 cups water and 3 tbsp soy sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes until the tomatoes soften.

  4. 4

Cut the 1.5 lb fish fillets into large chunks and add them to the pot. Simmer gently until the fish is opaque and flakes easily, about 8-10 minutes.

  5. 5

Taste the broth and add salt or extra soy sauce if needed. Serve hot in bowls with rice if desired.
