Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1.5 cups long-grain rice
- 1 can (14.5 oz) canned diced tomatoes
- 2 medium onions, divided
- 1 tsp each, or 1 tsp garam masala cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cloves (whole spices)
- 2 medium tomatoes, fresh

Dice one onion. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Brown ground beef, breaking up with a spoon, until no pink remains, about 6 minutes.

Add diced onion and whole spices (or garam masala), stir until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Pour in canned tomatoes with juice and rice, stir well, then add 2.5 cups water and salt to taste.

Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer until rice is tender and water absorbs, about 10 minutes.
