Ingredients
- 12 oz spaghetti
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- ¼ cup fresh basil
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the 12 oz spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 9-11 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- 2
While pasta cooks, heat 3 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 diced onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 3
Add 3 minced garlic cloves and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- 4
Pour in the 28 oz crushed tomatoes, 1 tsp salt, and 0.5 tsp black pepper. Simmer until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
- 5
Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce along with 0.5 cup of the reserved pasta water. Toss to coat, adding more water if needed for a silky sauce.
- 6
Stir in the 0.25 cup chopped fresh basil and serve immediately.
- 7
Optional: sprinkle with grated Parmesan or a pinch of red pepper flakes if you have them.
