Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup cherries

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch baking dish with 1 tbsp butter.

    In a bowl, mix 1 cup semolina, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 cup yogurt, and remaining 3 tbsp melted butter until combined.

    Pour batter into dish, spread evenly, and bake for 20 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

    While cake bakes, simmer 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar for 5 minutes until syrupy. Pour syrup over hot cake.

    Cool 5 minutes, then top with 1/2 cup cherries, a dusting of powdered sugar, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
