Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 count bamboo skewers, soaked in water 30 minutes
  • 3 count shallots, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • 1 count lime, juiced
  • ½ count red chili, minced (optional)
  • 8 leaves butter lettuce or romaine leaves
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro and green onion, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1

Thread beef cubes onto soaked skewers, leaving 1 inch at each end. Pat dry with a paper towel.

  2. 2

Warm kecap manis in a small bowl. Stir in sliced shallots, lime juice, and minced chili if using.

  3. 3

Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat until smoking, about 2 minutes.

  4. 4

Grill skewers 3–4 minutes per side, rotating once, until edges are charred and beef reaches desired doneness.

  5. 5

Brush grilled beef generously with kecap manis mixture. Let cool 1 minute so lettuce won't wilt.

  6. 6

Serve skewers on a bed of lettuce leaves, topped with cilantro and green onion. Pour extra kecap on the side.
