Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1 tbsp sugar. Gradually add 3/4 cup water and 1 tbsp oil, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.

  2. 2

Knead the dough on a lightly oiled surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 10 minutes.

  3. 3

Divide the dough into 4 balls. On an oiled surface, flatten each ball and stretch it as thin as possible, until you can see through it.

  4. 4

Brush the stretched dough with 1/2 tbsp butter, then fold it into a spiral or pleat. Repeat with remaining dough.

  5. 5

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium-high. Cook each roti for 2-3 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden and flaky. Serve hot.
