Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine 1 lb ground beef, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 1 beaten egg, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. 2

Roll the mixture into 12 equal meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.

  3. 3

Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs in a single layer and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Do not crowd the pan; work in batches if needed.

  4. 4

Remove the meatballs to a plate. Reduce heat to medium and add the remaining 1 minced garlic clove to the skillet. Cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

  5. 5

Pour in 28 oz crushed tomatoes, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Stir and bring to a simmer.

  6. 6

Return the meatballs to the sauce. Cover and simmer over low heat until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened, about 20-25 minutes.

  7. 7

Serve hot with crusty bread or over pasta.
