- 4 cups vegetable broth
- 1 medium onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper

Rinse the lentils under cold water and set aside.

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
