Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoon lavender buds

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 0.5 cup cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking soda, and 0.5 tsp salt.

  3. 3

Add 1 cup water, 0.5 cup oil, and 1 tsp lavender buds (crush lightly). Stir until just combined; batter will be thin.

  4. 4

Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 30-35 minutes.

  5. 5

Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  6. 6

For frosting, beat together 1 cup powdered sugar, 4 tbsp softened butter, 2 tbsp milk, and remaining 1 tsp lavender buds until smooth and spreadable.

  7. 7

Spread frosting over cooled cake and sprinkle with extra lavender buds if desired.
