Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion
  • ½ cup fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¾ cup water

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix flour, 1 tablespoon oil, and water into a soft dough. Knead 5 minutes, cover, and rest 30 minutes.

  2. 2

Finely chop onion and parsley. Combine with ground beef, salt, pepper, and remaining oil.

  3. 3

Divide dough into 4 balls. Roll each into a thin circle, about 8 inches wide.

  4. 4

Place a quarter of the meat mixture on one half of each circle, leaving a 1-inch edge.

  5. 5

Fold dough over filling, press edges to seal, and crimp with a fork.

  6. 6

Heat a dry skillet over medium. Cook each hawawshi 3 minutes per side until lightly browned.

  7. 7

Transfer to a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 15 minutes until golden and cooked through.

  8. 8

Let cool 5 minutes, then slice and serve warm.
